Spring classics in a new light: Wawel and the Botanical Garden
Wiosenne zwiedzanie warto zacząć od miejsc znanych, ale zapewniających o tej porze roku trochę inne doświadczenia niż w typowym okresie turystycznym.
Jagiellonian University Botanical Garden
The awakening plants in the Botanical Garden of the Jagiellonian University are a must-see when visiting Kraków in spring. It is the oldest institution of its kind in Poland, offering the chance to admire unique plant species, including those in greenhouses filled with exotic flora. In spring, it becomes an ideal place to enjoy colorful flower beds and blooming shrubs, especially the stunning magnolias. These, in particular, are one of the main reasons people visit at the turn of March and April.
In addition, the garden offers peace and quiet right in the city center, and a walk along its paths among nature coming back to life allows for a moment of escape from the urban hustle and bustle.
Wawel Royal Castle without the crowds
Most tourists associate Wawel Royal Castle with long ticket lines and a crowded courtyard, but in spring the situation looks quite different. Before the peak tourist season, Wawel Hill is much less crowded, which makes for a calmer, more relaxed atmosphere. It’s the perfect time for unhurried walks around the courtyard, leisurely admiring the historic architecture of the castle chambers, or quiet reflection inside Wawel Cathedral.
On top of that, there are beautiful views when the spring sun illuminates the buildings and the bends of the river, while the trees along the boulevards begin to turn green.

Spring at the National Museum
The weather in March or April can be unpredictable, so it’s worth having a backup plan. The Main Building of the National Museum in Kraków and its branches are a great option for a rainy afternoon. The institution regularly hosts fascinating temporary exhibitions featuring historic paintings and sculptures, as well as modern art and fashion. New exhibition cycles often begin in spring. The museum halls, still not overcrowded, offer a chance for მშვიდ contemplation of the past and human creativity.
Parks, quarries, and a fort
The southern part of the city is home to green areas with a truly unique character. Limestone cliffs, former quarries, and wild nature are the hallmarks of this part of Kraków. There are also lesser-known spots that are well worth a visit.
Bednarski Park in the heart of historic Podgórze
Bednarski Park was established in a former quarry, which gives it a distinctive atmosphere. You’ll find tall rock walls covered in ivy, winding paths, and plenty of old trees. In spring, numerous shrubs bloom here, and the ponds come alive with ducks. Many visitors choose the nearby Krakus Mound, overlooking this green oasis, so it usually remains peacefully uncrowded. From the upper paths, there are wonderful viewpoints over the rooftops of old Podgórze and the city center skyline.
Zakrzówek Lagoon and Twardowski Rocks
Twardowski Rocks is a 34-hectare park located just 3 kilometers from the city center, named after the legend of the famous sorcerer. Its main attraction is Zakrzówek Lagoon, created in 1992 when a former limestone quarry was flooded. It’s an ideal place for walks, with terrain featuring not only steep rock walls but also numerous karst formations, including the half-kilometer-long Twardowski Cave explored by speleologists.
The developed western part of the hill offers a convenient network of walking paths with viewpoints, providing sweeping panoramas of the Old Town and Kraków’s iconic mounds.

Wilga River Park
Wilga River Park is a green corridor stretching along the Wilga River, and in spring it becomes truly beautiful. Trees form a natural tunnel over the water, while birdsong drowns out the noise of the city. It’s a perfect option for those seeking contact with nature after an intense day of exploring Kraków’s museums. A walk along the meandering river makes you feel as if you’re in a riparian forest. The area remains relatively unknown to tourists, so you’re unlikely to encounter crowds.
The mysterious Liban Quarry
Right next to Krakus Mound lies the former Liban Quarry, where nature is slowly reclaiming land once shaped by industry. In spring, the quarry’s slopes are covered in lush greenery, creating a striking contrast with the rusting remains of industrial infrastructure and elements of the set from Schindler's List. The waterlogged bottom of the pit becomes a habitat for amphibians and water birds. There’s a distinct silence here, and the view of the city from the quarry’s edge is truly unique.
Polish Aviators Park
Polish Aviators Park is often associated mainly with the nearby TAURON Arena Kraków, but it is actually one of the largest green areas in the city. In spring, its paths fill with blooming trees, and vast meadows invite you to spread out a blanket and enjoy the first picnic of the year. There are also plenty of additional attractions, including the Stanisław Lem Garden of Experiences, designed with children in mind, as well as ponds that are home to many species of birds. It’s an ideal place to catch your breath after intensive sightseeing.

Fort 2 “Kościuszko” and the surrounding park
Around Kościuszko Mound lie the grounds of Fort 2 Kościuszko. It’s a treat for enthusiasts of fortifications and the history of the Kraków Fortress, but also for those in search of beautiful views. In spring, the fort’s brick walls look especially picturesque surrounded by nature coming back to life. The park around the fort is a great place for a walk, combining a history lesson with healthy outdoor activity.
Park at the Białoprądnicki Manor
In the northern part of Kraków, you’ll find a charming palace and park complex. The park at the Dworek Białoprądnicki is a true oasis of calm. Old trees, picturesque ponds, and the historic architecture of the manor create an atmosphere straight out of the 19th century. In spring, flower beds burst with color, and the lawns fill with locals looking to relax. The Centrum Kultury Dworek Białoprądnicki frequently hosts concerts and outdoor events, adding even more appeal to a visit here. It’s an ideal spot for a lazy afternoon away from the city center.
