In summer, we recommend enjoying some waterside relaxation in Kraków
Exploring the city in hot weather can be exhausting, but fortunately, Kraków offers plenty of places where you can unwind in nature. One of the most popular spots is Zakrzówek Park, a flooded limestone quarry that strikingly resembles the Croatian coastline. The sight of turquoise water surrounded by steep, bright cliffs is truly breathtaking. The city has created a series of floating swimming pools of varying depths, connected by wooden platforms. Admission is free, although entry is limited to 600 visitors at a time, so arriving early in the morning is highly recommended to avoid long queues.

Another great option is Kryspinów Reservoir, located just outside the city limits. It is a popular destination for beach lovers thanks to its sandy shoreline and beach volleyball courts. Barbecuing and open fires are prohibited on the premises, and there is an admission fee.
You can also visit Bagry Reservoir, which features a beach area as well as an extensive surrounding park. It is an excellent place for sunbathing and relaxation, but also for water sports enthusiasts, thanks to on-site equipment rentals. During the sailing season, numerous outdoor events and competitions take place here.
Summer picnics in the city
Relaxing in nature is easy to do in Kraków. One of the best spots for a picnic after a day of sightseeing is Kraków Błonia, a vast green meadow where locals gather on sunny days to enjoy meals outdoors, play sports, and spend time with family and friends.

Another peaceful retreat is Jordan Park. The shade provided by its mature trees offers welcome relief during the hottest days of summer, while its sports facilities and playgrounds make it an excellent destination for families.
For a truly memorable walk, visit the Jagiellonian University Botanical Garden. Located just a short distance from the Main Market Square, this beautiful oasis is known for its exotic plants, impressive greenhouses, and quiet, picturesque pathways.
For active visitors: kayaking and cycling
Those who enjoy staying active will find no shortage of opportunities in Kraków. A kayaking trip on the Vistula River offers a unique perspective of the city's landmarks from the water. More adventurous paddlers can try the Dłubnia River, which winds through the green landscapes of Nowa Huta and often requires navigating around fallen branches and natural obstacles.

Cycling enthusiasts should consider the scenic route that follows the Vistula Boulevards all the way to the historic Tyniec Abbey. The trail is flat, easy, and exceptionally picturesque, making it suitable even for families with younger children. It is a perfect way to spend a summer afternoon.
Summer festivals, open-air cinema and outdoor culture
Summer in Kraków is also packed with cultural events that attract visitors from around the world. One of the highlights is Wianki on the Vistula, a lively celebration welcoming the start of summer with concerts and festivities.

From July 1–5, the city hosts the Jewish Culture Festival, while the renowned Summer Jazz Festival takes place at the legendary Piwnica pod Baranami from June 27 through August 31.
Another major attraction is the Street Theatre Festival, which transforms Kraków's squares and public spaces into magical open-air stages. This year's festival will take place from July 3–5 and July 10–12.
Open-air cinemas provide yet another opportunity to experience the city from a different perspective. Atmospheric screenings are held beneath Wawel Castle, on the rooftops of major shopping centres, and in the lawns of city parks.
Traditional sightseeing
Even on the hottest days, traditional sightseeing remains an excellent option. A visit to the Rynek Underground Museum is particularly rewarding, offering a fascinating journey through Kraków's medieval past. The naturally cool temperature underground makes it an ideal attraction during a heatwave.
Another must-see is Oskar Schindler's Enamel Factory, which provides a powerful insight into the lives of Kraków's residents during the Second World War through its permanent and temporary exhibitions.

For those interested in contemporary art, the museums of Zabłocie offer a modern alternative to traditional collections. The MOCAK Museum of Contemporary Art is especially known for its thought-provoking exhibitions that encourage reflection and discussion.
The best sunset viewpoints
Warm summer evenings are perfect for watching the sunset, and Kraków offers several spectacular vantage points. One of the most popular is Krakus Mound, whose grassy summit provides sweeping views of the city's historic skyline.
Equally impressive panoramas can be enjoyed from the slightly higher Kościuszko Mound.

If the weather cooperates, consider taking a ride in the tethered observation balloon located on the riverbank opposite Wawel Castle. Another wonderful option is enjoying dinner or drinks at one of Kraków's rooftop cafés while watching the sun go down.
