See Seasonal Attractions in Krakow in Winter
During the period before Christmas until the holiday itself, a major city attraction is the Christmas Market at the Main Square. It usually starts on the last weekend of November and this year will run until January 1, 2026. Wooden stalls with numerous souvenirs, seasonal decorations, and regional dishes attract crowds every year. If typical winter weather appears, a walk through falling snow, surrounded by the scent of cloves, cinnamon, and grilled meat mixed with the sound of carols and a mulled wine in hand, remains memorable for a long time.
Another must-see in the winter season is the Krakow Nativity Scenes Exhibition at the Krzysztofory Palace, a branch of the Krakow Museum. Why is it so special? Krakow nativity scenes are listed by UNESCO, and you won’t see them anywhere else in the world – they are slender, multi-level towers inspired by Krakow’s architecture. Those displayed at the exhibition are winners of the competition held every year on the first Thursday of December at the Adam Mickiewicz monument.

Especially on snowy days, it’s worth visiting the Stanisław Lem Experience Garden on Aleja Pokoju after dark. Every year, an outdoor light exhibition can be seen there. A walk among giant lanterns, light tunnels, and multimedia installations is an extraordinary experience, especially for children. Even more so because the theme of the illumination changes every year; this year it is under the theme of “Pinocchio.” Tickets can be purchased online on the dedicated website or on-site at the garden entrance.
For those planning to visit Krakow during Christmas, a must-see is the Live Nativity Scene at Franciszkańska Street. This tradition is maintained by the Franciscan brothers. In the square opposite the famous Papal Window, during the holiday days from December 24 to 26, they build an enclosure with live animals. The nativity scene is accompanied by communal caroling and nativity plays organized by the monks. Attending such an event is a unique experience that will remain in memory for a long time, especially for the youngest family members.
For fans of outdoor activities, we recommend the largest outdoor ice rink in Poland, built each year in Jordan Park in Krakow. It consists of three zones – a large 1200 m² rink, a children’s rink, and an ice alley. It attracts not only because of its size but also because of its atmosphere, as the rinks and the path are located among trees, creating a special ambiance in the evening and inviting fun.
As soon as the winter weather permits, we also recommend visiting Ojców to participate in a traditional sleigh ride. A ride in horse-drawn sleighs with torches, ending with a bonfire, sausage roasting, and hot tea, is the perfect conclusion to a winter getaway.

Besides these main attractions, you can also find more intimate spots and places for reflection. During the Christmas season, concerts of carols and numerous nativity plays, including puppet performances, are held in Krakow’s churches. We recommend keeping an eye on where and when you can attend such events. Gathering together to sing and experience the story will be a unique experience.
This year, the New Year’s concert will take place in Katowice, but a fireworks display and greetings for residents are planned at the Main Square. We also encourage you to take advantage of our offer – the Royal Express New Year’s Eve 2025/2026.
Winter Sightseeing in Krakow
If the weather is not favorable in winter, it’s worth visiting the numerous monuments and museums in the city. One notable place is the Archaeological Museum in Krakow at ul. Senacka 3, where you can see one of the most interesting Egyptology collections in Poland. The exhibition features mummies, sarcophagi, ushabti figurines, and amulets. Next to it, it is worth exploring the exhibition showing the history of Lesser Poland. Here you can see how people lived in this region from the Stone Age, through the Neanderthals, up to the early times of Krakow.
For those interested in the less glorious side of history, a good option is the Museum of Torture at Floriańska 10, which combines history with entertainment. The exhibitions display reconstructions of torture instruments, complemented by descriptions and educational films. A small place, but one that gives a real thrill.

After sightseeing, to warm up, we recommend visiting the E. Wedel Chocolate Lounge at the Main Square, where you can enjoy delicious liquid sweetness. Regardless of age, such a stop will delight every sweet tooth.
Among Krakow’s attractions is also the Polonia Wax Museum at Floriańska 32, a museum of wax figures. You can admire likenesses of people famous from movies, TV series, as well as historical figures.
For families, a fun afternoon full of laughter and entertainment, especially when the weather is not favorable, can be spent at the Water Park. Its numerous attractions, including eight slides, a paddling pool with a Pirate Island, hydromassage jets, and water fountains, are fun for the whole family.
Another option is the Museum of Engineering and Technology, located in the heart of Kazimierz in the historic halls of Krakow’s oldest tram depot. It is an ideal attraction for families with children and fans of automobiles and technology. The exhibition “City. Technosensitivity” shows the history of urban and technological development, illustrating how transportation, energy, and water supply systems evolved. A real highlight is the collection of historic vehicles – old Krakow trams and iconic Polish cars, including Syrena, Warszawa, Fiat 126p “Maluch,” and Polonez.
